nARTBOX Mall Game

A big focus of this blog is going to be nostalgia for movies and games I liked as a kid! Today, we're going to be talking about a game that's apparently called "Get Ready for Your Trip!", but what I knew as "nARTBOX Shopping Mall".

Originally, since I can't read Korean, I had thought that the protagonist of this game had missed being first in line for a big sale at the mall, and had to get all the good deals before her rivals took them all. Think the "Crazy 10-minute Sale" episode from "Wizards of Waverly Place", one of my favorite shows at the time.

It's a toughie, so when I'd lose and see this screen I'd see it as the popular chicks taunting our main girl here, but look at that smile on her face - she's taking it like a champ.

However, thanks to Google's image translation service, guess what's actually going on?

Our main girl slept too late to pack for her trip, and is sorely in need of those useful odds and ends (which honestly, I was a bit confused why she'd be so eager to go to the mall for toothbrushes and oranges back then). The "enemies" she has to avoid are actually her friends, who are looking for her since they're eager to get going. And guess what they're saying to her on the losing screen?

Awww!!! Much better than "Nyah nyah, you missed out on all the sweet mall deals, loser!"

And, of course, if you win you're treated to a sweet image of all three girls setting out on their trip with a cheerful "Let's go!"
